    Hi there!

I'm John, a french player. Thank you for these addictive game!

I guess I missed something in the game. See this picture :

How can this be possible? Comparing Harry's and my score : I played 9 seconds more, did 118 combo and he did only 57 but he finally has 10 000 points more than me. What can I do to improve my score please?

    Thanks in advance,

    John.

The combo represents the number of squares collected in a row, not the total amount collected. If you let a square leave the screen, your combo is reset. He most likely collected a large number of squares, but with a lower combo.

Glad you enjoy the game :)

I looked up the data for his high score, he collected 620 squares. He's quite good :)

    Bonjour Sam! :o)

620! That can't be possible!!! That mean's 4.7 squares per second... the game doesn't give so many squares (anyway... who could catch them? LOL!)

    John :o)

Haha.. yeah, he must have been pretty lucky. He's submitted 163 scores, and in 4 of them he collected over 500 squares. He does seem to collect the most squares, the next highest is 451 squares by Andrelio. However, I noticed today that the website stopped recording the number of squares, so there's a lot of data missing there. I fixed it a few minutes ago, so it should be recording them again. I'm not sure when it stopped :-/

It's possible he got that score using a slower computer and an older version of DCSquares, but most likely he was just lucky.

Just realized you were looking at the monthly scores. The data I posted was for the overall scores. For the high score he has this month, he collected 191 squares.

LOL! Ok! Now it's clear! ;o)

Does that mean that combos give neither points nor multiplier?
And last question : I can't find the score scale (I mean 1 square is 100 points during x first second, then 200 points until x second, then ...) could you help me please?

    Merci d'avance (thanks in advance)

    John.

(time to go to bed here... damn' I hate this game! LOL)

Every time you collect 5 squares, the value of collecting a square increases, as does the size of your square, and the rate at which you gain points for just staying alive. When your combo is greater than four, it acts as a multiplier per square. Each square gets twice your combo added to its value. Ex. if your squares are currently worth 100 points each and your combo is 6, the next square you collect would be worth 112 points.

    Thank you Sam. :o)

I beg your pardon... but how much is added every 5 squares? (shame on me to be so curious)

Let's practice a little more... I have to improve myself ! LOL

    John

PS: can't we pause the game when the telephone rings?

At least 20 points is added to the value every 5 squares. The exact amount slowly increases as you collect more squares, but the value of a square will never be higher than 1000 points.

As for pausing, from the FAQ:

The reason there is no pausing is that it would allow players to cheat. If you're about to hit a red square, you could hit pause and then move your mouse to a safe area, and then resume the game. We will reconsider this for the next release of DCSquares.

can you consider making the next one so that you can play the came with your arrow keys instead of your mouse. cause my mouse keeps sliding to the end of the pad and i have to pick it up and move it to the middle of the pad. it can get pretty annoying and i think that the arrow keys would be funner.

    THANKS

I'll consider it for a future version. In the meantime, you can try adjusting the sensitivity of your mouse in the control panel so it doesn't move off the pad.
