The next major version of DCSquares will have two new gameplay modes: Challenge and Mission.
Challenge: This mode will allow players to compete for values other than score. There are currently three challenges:
Time Attack - Collect as many squares as you can in 1 minute. The frequency of the squares is much higher than the regular game, and powerups are disabled.
Survival - How long can you survive with only red squares and no powerups? Again, the frequency of the squares is much higher than the regular game.
Perfection - This challenge is all about combo. Miss a green square, and the game is over! This mode may or may not have the invincibility / evil squares powerups only, I haven't decided yet.
The other new game mode is Mission. This mode will ask the player to accomplish a task, such as "Collect 100 squares" to complete each level. Your score, combo, and squares will be carried through to the next level, and different powerups are gradually introduced.
Feel free to suggest additional challenges and missions.

Wow... this post is over two years old! Do you have any plans on making this new release, yet? Or has your main focus been on DreamZZT?

It was originally supposed to be released as part of a Dreamcast compilation disc, followed by the Windows/Mac release a month or so after. When that fell through I kind of lost interest.
At some point I'll get around to releasing the new version, but right now DreamZZT and my real job keep me pretty busy.
