As you all probably know, PwnageTool is out (yay!) and I now have a 2.0 jail-broken iPod touch.

    A few questions...

    1) does MobileScrobbler work with 2.0 firmware?

    AND

    2) if it works, how can I get it from Cydia as I don't seem to have installer?

SNAP! Just noticed there's a last.fm Application in the App store!

EDIT: It doesn't scrobble songs on the go. Ugh.

Come on MobileScrobbler for 2.0 firmware!!!

Yes PLEASE! A "real" scrobbler for those of us with unlocked phones. I loved automatically scrobbled tunes over EDGE, and would hate to lose that functionality.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that even if mobilescrobbler is ported to the new OS, scrobbling on the go won't be possible because 2.0 doesn't allow applications to run in the background. Right?

    l0th:correct me if I'm wrong...

I think you are wrong l0th.

The Official SDK/App Store stuff doesn't allow apps to run in the background, but I think you're ok if you use the native API. I could be completely wrong myself, but to me this is the key reason we still need jailbreak/pwnage.

I would tend to agree with you pivotal. background services like OpenSSH, FTP, and AFP seems to run fine. I imagine scrobbler is similar.

    but obviously i'm no expert.

I'm considering going back to 1.1.4 in the meantime. I can only stay impressed by iPint for so long ;)

For those who have updated to 2.0, I've found a way to scrobble tracks..

Mac + iPod touch (2.0 firmware) + iScrobbler (latest beta)

I've gotten tracks played out-and-about on my 2.0 touch to scrobble when I get home and plug in. It's not the best solution, but it works for me until Installer and MobileScrobbler are updated...

Taro, if you use the Last.fm software it will do this job for you. We want realtime scrobbling and features.

Yeah Taro, I'm syncing that way at the moment, but real-time scrobbling is just so much easier and cleaner, not to mention artist and lyric information on the fly.

I'm also seriously missing the real time scrobbling. I loved not having to plug in my iPhone every day to update...

I can just beg you guys to port MobileScrobbler to 2.0

Being present in the official iTunes store is great, but MobileScrobbler without the official SDK limitations just can do so much more. The most important thing is that it scrobbles my songs, but also listening to music while doing something else on my iPhone is a really important part.

I think there are a LOT of people who would really love to see MobileScrobbler on 2.0, and it would be really really great if you guys could make this happen. As far as I have heard porting to 2.0 is not that easy, so I know it's asking a lot considering that you have to work on the last.fm app, but still ... MobileScrobbler is really great and with the restrictions of the official SDK the last.fm app just cannot compete with that.

So please port it or at least let us know if you will or won't do it, that would be really great.

    thanks

well, but that won't help much if MobileScrobbler doesn't get ported. It could be easily available through Cydia, Installer is not really needed anymore (I hope they fixed all the security issues with installer, otherwise I won't use it alot anyways)

I would like to add my voice to the many that are requesting real-time scrobbling on a jailbroken 2.0 phone. I am still on 1.1.4 but having a "proper" mobile scrobbler would make me update and put a big hoofing smile on my face.

    Thanks.

It doesn't look like it. Now there's just the Last.fm application, which seems to be mobile scrobbler's replacement. It doesn't scrobble though.

Is it only me that has problem with the iScrobbler and iPhone 2.0?
It is rarely scrobbling my songs when connected to iTunes. I know for a fact that I have been playing 10-20 songs on my iPhone, but still iScrobbler only on occations ask to scrobble 1-2 songs?

Oho, btw.. no news for MobileScrobbler on jailbroken 2.0 ??! :-D

Yeah iScrobbler is pretty lame with the iPhone. I seem to have similar issues to you htilly. I think sometimes it only scrobbles songs that it can "match" against Last.fm

It has been a couple of weeks since this thread has been updated. I am still wondering if Mobile Scrobbler will make it back out for the 2.0.x firmware. I just plain like it better than the version in the App Store (though I find it amazing as well). I am have a hard time not having real time scrobbling and not being able to run it in the background. If you could help the community out, that would be awesome.

I guess that you already know this, but if you have missed it there is a app called "Scrobble" availible via Cydia. Works great!! Tested it on 2.0.1.
    Info says:
Scrobble apps to last.fm as they are played on the iphone. Based on the scrobbling code from MobileScrobbler by Sam Steel.

FINALY I can scrobb my music directly from my iphone. Me = Happy :-D
